"Danny Shittu
Good Points:
Outstanding in the air
Physically Immence.
Scored 9 goals for us last season.
Good at marking target men.
Works hard - always gives 100%
Has a high level of fitness/stamina
Fairly good at tackling.
Bad Points.
Always plays long aimless 'hit and hope balls' (he hoofs it all the time basically)
He's slow
Has no agility, skill, technique
Poor first touch
Doesn't read the game very well -(poor awareness)
Can be clumsy
Positional play isn't too great
- Overall he's not good enough for the Prem.
Can only mark target men."
in short hes a good Championship player
i think the main reason he might not cut it in the Prem is his lack of pace
i mean, Hierro was one of the best centre backs in the world - but when he played centre back for us even clubs like Norwich made him look like a mug
you dont have to be like lightening but if your slow in the premiership the likes of Tevez and Torres will rip you a new ar*ehole

How can you say that before we've even kicked a ball in anger? How underwhelmed were we when AOB joined us? I'm not suggesting he's a world beater, but he did well for us last season.
The game isn't just about having the best 11 players on the pitch. Those players have got to gel and work for each other. They will have to learn to read each other and each must be clear what their role is. If we do that, we can finish anywhere between 17th and 6th.

There are a number of players in the Chelsea, Arsenal, Man U and Liverpool teams who are not as good as they think they are and wouldn't look half as good in an 'ordinary' team. But they have good players around them. They learn from them and to some extent, they are protected by them.
Bring that down a few notches (ok, lots of notches) and put this top Championship player in our team. Shittu will learn from them. He'll learn how to handle himself in the PL, because if nothing else, our players are battle-hardened. He'll even learn a thing or two from Cahill, who IMO will go from strength to strength.
As I said earlier, you don't have to have the best players to do reasonably well in this league. You need half decent professionals who gel. If Shittu gets his head down I think he'll do ok. We need a decent squad and options on the bench. The bench last season was god-awful. If we have injury & suspension cover, we'll be fine, and in that respect, I think this will be better than most seasons.

taking all that on board - but at the end of the day if he has no pace at all (which is wot i keep readin) then he may struggle still
time will tell

| I don't remember him being all that slow, but then again I did not pay that much attention to him either.

Indeed. But then Gudni had no pace in his last few years either - he relied on positional sense and experience.

i seem to remember him outstripping Anelka and the like when Watford came here a couple of seasons back - built like a brick Shittu-house as well
i was impressed with him then, he'll probably start the season a benchwarmer, but i can see him replacing AOB by the end

I am happy that we need to bring the heart of the defence player
The explicit images of the landscape seems to be the player side, and a strong defender

Bolton Wanderers boss Gary Megson is delighted with his capture of Watford defender Danny Shittu.
Megson told the club's website: "Danny's a mountain of a man, he's aggressive, he's quick and his biggest strength is in the air. Anybody who has seen him play will know his defensive qualities already, plus he is dangerous from set pieces as well.
"Having said all that there is no guarantee he will get into the team and he has work to do because we have already got two good centre-halves.
"There was something agreed with Glasgow Rangers but the deal didn't go through and there had been another couple of offers from a Premier League club and a top Championship club so we are really pleased to have him here."
QUICK????? liar!

To be fair, no-one at Spurs thought that about Gudni when he left. Give S-2 a chance and then complain if he doesn't cut it.

It's normally a 10 year thing, isn't it.

Interview from BN
DANNY Shittu always knew he could make it as a Premiership footballer – just ask his friends.
The Wanderers defender used to watch Match of the Day, and would tell anyone who would listen that one day he would be on it.
His mates from the tough area of London’s East End where he grew up after moving from Nigerian as a seven-year-old would continually tell him to stop dreaming.
But Shittu’s unremitting faith in his own ability has been rewarded with a £2million move from Watford – and a chance to prove himself in the top flight.
“I used to watch Match of the Day and always thought I was good enough to play in the Premier League,” said the 28-year-old, one of eight Bolton players away on international duty this week.
“I was about 15 and I used to watch it with my friends and think ‘I’m better than these players’.
“My friends used to say ‘what are you on about, you’re not going to make it’. It’s funny because they are the same friends who are knocking on my door asking for tickets now.
“I’ve always wanted to be in the Premiership and have worked hard to get here. Now I’m here, I’m delighted.”
Shittu, who was closed to signing for Scottish giants Rangers over the summer, began his career at Charlton Athletic, before spells at Blackpool, Queens Park Rangers and Watford, where he briefly tasted life in the Premier League in the 2006/07.
The muscular centre back, selected in the PFA Championship team of the year last season, has been handed an early chance to impress following Gary Cahill’s sending off, and subsequent three-match ban.
But he is more than happy to fight for his place at the Reebok – and promised fans they haven’t seen the best of him yet.
“I know you can’t walk straight into the team,” he added. “Every player here is a good player, so you need to push yourself even more.
“Some players don’t like that, but I love the challenge and I’m very excited about being here.
“I know I could’ve stayed in the Championship and played week in, week, but I’m happy to work hard for my place and there’s a lot more to come from me.”

| I think he'll improve.......and the sooner the better. We need him to be up to speed and we need serious competition for places.

Well done Danny and give it your all and you'll fit in well with us! I really do think that player effort is what has been lacking most of all and we haven't had a player who'd try and grab the game and turn it our way. Davies is the only one who came close last season and even he became dejected. This is the mentality I want!
