Yes, he could turn nasty, and he squandered his talent somewhat, but in the early days of TV, he made the game worth watching. He made the game interesting.
But after seeing recent pictures of him, his death is no surprise. A great character and in his heyday, fantastic to watch.

My condolences, go out to all his family and friends.
He was a person, who helped to bring Snooker into the modern age. Put showmanship into TV Coverage, and a person who helped to increase viewing figures.
Trouble is , I think I can compare him to George Best, regarding stardom, and how it affects people.
Him and George, both have a lot of common...
"Alex", You was one of the people who changed peoples outlook on Snooker. For the Better.....
R.I.P. A showman, who was loved by many....

| nobody could stop a ball dead like him either. Not an easy thing to do, especially on a long shot.

RIP Alex. A snooker genius who was part of the game's golden era and got a lot of people interested who otherwise wouldn't have been, including myself and Mrs V. We lived in Sheffield when he last won the title at the Crucible. Such a pity he self destructed. That photo above is a shocker and a timely warning to anyone who overdoes tobacco and booze.

| One of a few who actually made snooker worth watching in a generally boring sport. RIP.

Spot on Frankie, a rule breaker, a talented individual, a loose cannon but compelling to watch. RIP
