Sorry to hear about Cahill's bad luck. Even less interested in the tournament now. Hodgson's replacement selections get ever more ludicrous.

A good start to the tournament. An upset already too. Denmark I thought were very good and passed the ball very well. More good games around the corner too.

Can anyone else see Holland going out group stage without a point?

Thought Carroll was fantastic tonight.

Elmander played as well as he often did for us.

He is still the one who gave away the free kick.

Still,  its irrelevant now.

Theo Walcott had a massive impact on the game.

Seems like many teams have already been fined for similar offences. Sounds like overkill to me.

Croatia fined £65k for the racism of their fans....Bendtner fined £80k for flashing a non-UEFA sponsor on his kex. :banghead:

What a night!

Rooney gets an important 90 minutes.......Gerrard, Parker Terry and Lescott all look good.....we top the group......we avoid Spain in the quarters......we haven't lost a game.

Oh, and the cockyness knocked right out of Laurent Blanc......priceless!!

We shouldn't be surprised that the French surrended I suppose? ;)

Sepp Blatter wasn't interested in goal line technology when England had a perfectly good goal ruled out 2 years ago. But now he thinks it's a necessity after one of his extra officials misses the ball crossing the line against England, even though play should have already been stopped for an offside...

Totally Agree...  Said the same thing to Mr Man earlier, said it was like watching Chelsea v Bolton...

Think everyone in the country also knew both Ashley's would miss the Penalties...

Whatever!!  An expected result...

Thank goodness that's over. 3 hours of my life wasted that I will never get back. I don't think I'll bother watching England on telly again. After 4 turgid games I cannot work out what the point of Ashley Young is, and I am struggling to see what value Rooney has at that level any more. Now I think I'll go and study the grass outside as it is more exciting.

Well Hodgson failed his first test tonight. What? No, not losing to Italy. By following all other England managers and sticking to the golden rule that you never sub St Wayne of Rooney....no matter how bad he's playing. :banghead:

What was the point of taking Rooney to sit and watch and do very little when he did play? Past caring though.

I'd also have played Carroll from the start. Welbeck was almost as good as Rooney.

On a positive note, it was a pleasure to watch a complete midfield performance from Andrea Pirlo. He controlled the game from start top finish, he lent the ball to other Italian players before getting it back from them. An absolute master-class in passing, movement etc.

Technically and tactically the Italians (Portuguese, Spanish and Germans) are a long way ahead of us.

England played within their limitations ie can't keep the ball because we can't pass it and control it. England had little choice but to play like a lower division team ie all get back behind the ball and defend with your lives. The Premier League is partly to blame with its 90 miles an bash and crash style.

Lets hear no more of the Wayne Rooney is world class. You are world class when do it against the best in the world. None of our players come up to that standard. We are an average side with average players. In fact what was lacking from the tournament was the usual "England are going to win it" nonsense.

The tournament has been excellent. Great football, good refereeing and, most remarkably, players behaving themselves. Not much diving and a lot of respect for the opposition. I don't what has caused the outbreak of fair play but it is very welcome.

I thought that Terry and Gerrard had a good tournament. Johnson was ok. Cole I thought was awful, but the pundits praised him. If Carroll had been on from the start last night, he'd have bullied Pirlo from the outset. Welbeck is a sub, a player you should bring on when you need fresh legs....no more. As for Ashley Young...didn't look interested.

When you think that Italy are not known for their passing game........

But if you sit behind the ball and let the opposition pass it around, they'll get chances.

It would have been embarrassing to go through on penalties after getting such a kicking all the game.
